Another come back to no avail!

Another home game for the vets with Ian taking temporary charge whilst Ray enjoys a week away. It was a similar story, though, as the Vets started slowly and had to deal with more Ilmington attacks than could be made the other way. It was a floated cross that gave Ilmington the first goal as Matt rose to reach it but sent it over Scott and into the back of the net for 0-1. Chances then came at both ends as Scrap sent a header wide and a few through balls looked threatening before the Ilmington keeper came out to claim. Corners were proving troublesome for the Bloxham defence as a couple required evasive action, to stop the scoreline getting worse, and the bar was struck from close range, before a scramble in the box fell to the feet of an llmington player who found a deflection to put it in the net.

Scrap delivered a rousing half time team talk, calling for calmness, and it seemed to do the trick as Bloxham came out the second half as the better team. Ironically it was Scrap who had the first effort on goal, but sent the ball sailing over the bar after a less than calm shot! Whilst Bloxham remained in the ascendency, it was Ilmington who broke the offside trap and ran through to slot the ball in the bottom corner, despite Scott getting a hand to it. 3 nil down and with nothing to lose Bloxham continued to press and Andy made the break through, with a header, to start the come back. With even greater impetus now the next goal wasn't far away with Andy again finding the net following a great turn and shot. It felt almost inevitable that the 3rd goal would go our way but another break away from Ilmington saw Andy take down their player in the box and the penalty was converted. The game didn't end without further shots on goal but it was too little too late.

The referee has decided to hang up his whistle and calls for extra support in midfield will give Ray something to think about in a couple of weeks!
