Another draw extending the unbeaten run

It was another draw for the Vets but it felt like a defeat having been on top for the majority of it. It extends the unbeaten run to 3 games and with each game the team performance improves, we just have to find away of turning 1 point into 3!

Having beaten Ettington at the beginning of the season we set out on achieving the double over them and despite some early pressure from Ettington there were no real troubles for Scott. The opener came as a bit of a surprise, with Ettington leaving a back pass short for Knaggsy to jump onto and slot past their keeper. It felt like the only way we were going to break the dubious offside trap so we were happy to take it! Neither team had any further clear cut chances but Bloxham had the better of the half chances with a few scrambles in the box and shots that went wide taking us to half time.

We knew a second goal was needed and that was the focus of the half time team talk. Ian came on for Knaggsy and it was Ian who set up the second goal, in what had been an even second half to that point. Ian found the ball at his feet in the box and fed in Brooksy to give us a 2 nil lead.

The 2 goal advantage was short lived as a free kick outside the box gave Ettington a route back into the game. The ball was sent over to the back post and headed back across goal, finding the net for 2-1. Both teams looked a threat going forward and it was all about which defence would crack first and thankfully it was Ettington's, as Brooksy went on a run in the box before being taken out as he was ready to release the trigger. Matty stepped up and slotted it under the keeper to give us back the 2 goal advantage. At 3-1 it felt like it was going to be our day but it was Ettington who put together a come back.

They had always looked a threat and put pressure on the back 4, who had stood strong for most of the game, but it was a rare mix up that gave Ettington a speculative shot that snuck between Scott and the post for 3-2. They had their heads up but it was Bloxham who were finding the most space and getting the majority of balls into the box, without giving their keeper much to do. Unfortunately the final chance of the game came from the penalty spot for Ettington, as a low cross in was deemed to come off Andy's arms and they levelled things up with just a few minutes left to play. It was hard to take, having looked strong though out, with a 2 goal advantage on 2 occasions but there's no beating the team spirit and effort which will see us record another victory in due course.
