Another good day at the office.
On a cold morning .......
........ Bloxham hosted Banbury Utd Spencer in the league. On a pitch that seemed more suited to grazing cattle, than the beautiful game Banbury Utd got the game under way. Bloxham had the first effort on goal, just minutes into the game ... with Archie picking the ball up on the left and running at the goal, before letting fly. Only to see it miss the target. The visitors then started to take a little bit of control, as they started to pass and move the ball well. Creating several openings, but their shots never troubled Carson. As the half progressed, the boys started to get to grips with their visitors. And slowly passes started to miss Utd players and go to Bloxham instead. Archie started to make runs down the left flank, without being quite able to deliver that final ball. With the visitors, now struggling to make anything of their possession, Bloxham took the lead. Archie made another great run down the left, before putting in a low cross to the far post to Tom W, Unfortunately his first touch, was a little heavy and it rolled to a defender. But with pressure from Tom and the presence of his keeper, it seemed to get stuck under his feet. And like a true poacher, Tom poked the ball into the net. (1-0) As the half drew to a close the boys had chances to extend their lead. First Aiden had a shot blocked, that appeared goal bound. Then Thomas M moved onto a loose ball, just in the Banbury half and let fly ... straight into the arms of the keeper. Before James and Tom W had efforts saved by the visitors keeper.
At the break, Harry G and Freddie joined the action, as Harry C and Aiden made way. Bloxham picked up where they had left off. Creating chances for James and Harry G. A couple of minute into the half, the lead was extended. Archie picked up a nice pass from Tom W on the Bloxham left. Heading for goal, he ducked left, then right ........ turning the defender inside out. Before cutting back onto his left and letting rip, from the edge of the box. Flashing past the keeper and into the far corner. (2-0) Just the start needed. It was all Bloxham now, the visitors had lost their swagger and looked deflated. Chances started to fall regularly, without any being taken. As the visiting keeper was making a string of saves to keep the score down. A hooked clearance by the Bloxham defence, caught the visitors napping and James was away bearing down on goal. Answering his coaches calls to 'come out and close him down', the Banbury shot stopper started to advance out to meet James. With a calm, collected deft touch, James lifted the ball over the keeper and with one bounce, it nestled into the unguarded net. (3-0) With the pitch causing players to get heavy legged and a comfortable lead, George and Thomas M made way for Jakob and the returning Aiden (who went into central defence). It was Harry G, that tried his luck next. After the ball had bounce around in the area, like a pinball, it broke to the Bloxham right to Harry G ........... he let rip with a venomous strike, that thundered of 2 defenders and away to safety. With Bloxham appearing in control, the visitors chanced their arm a little and put a passes past the home defence. But these went through to Carson. As the half progressed, it was a question of when were the boys going to score, not if. It came, courtesy of James W. Again he latched on to a forward pass out of defence and headed for goal, down the left. Again the keeper came out to meet him, but this time James showed the keeper to his left, before side stepping to the right and calmly rounding the keeper and sliding the ball home. (4-0). With the game now settled, James and Archie went for a rest as Harry C and Ismaeel re-joined the game and see out the final 10 minutes.
