Back in action!!
After a break of ..................
.......... a month and on a cold, grey and drizzly morning Bloxham were back in League action, as they travelled out to Chesterton. In the early minutes of the first half, Bloxham made all the early running and created several chances for Tom W, but he was unable to find the target. After surviving the early scares, the home side created a half chance on the counter-attack that didn't really trouble Carson's goal. Although, the boys continued to put some pressure on the hosts goal, their play seemed slow, disjointed and a little lethargic. Probably due to the enforced break. This allowed the home side to come more into the game and create chances for themselves, without really looking like they would score. Finally, Bloxham made the break through. Joshua picked the ball up just inside his own half and made a good run down the left, before crossing the ball into the area. It was picked up by Tom W at the back post, who saw his shot blocked by a defender. The ball ricocheted to the edge of the area and straight to James W. Who took one touch and then coolly slotted the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the goal (0-1). Freddie came on for Ismaeel at left back at this point. Both sides saw efforts, narrowly miss their targets as the game seemed to get a little bogged down in the middle of the park. Although Bloxham weren't playing as well as they have done previously, they still seemed to be fairly comfortable in the game. But there was always a little glimmer for the home side. With 20 minutes of the half gone, Bloxham increased their lead. Again it come from the left, as Joshua made another great run into the area. Before letting fly with a thunderous left boot ........only to see his shot blocked on the line. In the scramble that followed, a poor clearance fell to Tom W and he calmly swept the ball past the home keeper (0-2). The coaches made another change (Thomas M making way for Archie). The game seemed to be drifting to halftime, without any real cohesion from either side. Then the home side got a break. A long punt up field over the Bloxham defence, was picked up by George. As he started to bring the ball back up the pitch, he was closed down by an attacker. Trying to play the ball out to Archie on the right, it cannoned of the out stretched attackers leg. Over George and Carson and slowly rolled in to the net. (1-2) This seemed to spur the home side on and they could have been level, moments later. But a smart save to his right, by Carson kept them out.
During the interval James and Freddie made way for Jakob and Harry G. The early stages of the second half, were much like the first ..... with Bloxham creating chances. Again falling to Tom W, but they were either saved or blacked by the Chesterton. But there was still this little glimmer for the home side, as they chances on the counter. James came back on for Aiden and immediately had an effort on goal blocked. With 20 minutes gone and the Bloxham defence looking a little shake, Thomas M came back on for Jakob and this seemed to stem the chances for the home side. The boys continued to press and create chances, as they all the players started to tire and increased their lead further. Tom W picked the ball up on the Bloxham right, cut in field before releasing James with a inch perfect through ball. Bearing down on goal, he drew the keeper out before he calmly side footed it into the empty net. (1-3) This seemed to knock the wind out of Chesterton's sails and minutes latter Tom W put the result beyond doubt. Harry C, challenged for and won the ball on the half way line and headed for goal. As he reached the edge of the box, he seemed to have run out of legs ..... but managed to get his shot away. It was saved by the keeper and fell nicely to the arriving Tom W and he hit it first time into the open goal. (1-4). With the game dying out, there was still time for Harry G and Archie to have efforts to add to the score, but they weren't to be.
