High Five for Bloxham
By Fraser Mee
Bloxham U12's started ...........
Bloxham U12's started the new season by hosting Chesterton Juniors on cloudy, but dry morning. Having had a couple of training sessions to sweep away the cobwebs, Bloxham started well. Closing down quickly and neat passing, soon had the boys on the front foot and it took less than 2 minutes for them to take the lead. The first corner of the match was floated into the near post, by Thomas M and James W meet it with his head, to firmly plant it past the visiting keeper. Just the start, to help settle the boys down. Right from the restart, it was clear that Bloxham were a strong side than the visitors, with most of the play in their half. There were solid tackles, good passing and movement by the home side. Chances were being created, down the Bloxham left .... but good keeping by the Chesterton 'shot stopper' kept the home side out. But eventually, he was beaten. James W picked the ball up in the middle of the park and drove towards the box, before laying the ball off to Harry C Moving on to the ball, Harry hit a loft shot back across the keeper and into the far top corner. Harry C was proving a real handful for the opposing defence. Chasing through balls, hustling the players and generally being a nuisance. But it was causing Chesterton to concede corner after corner. Following a string of consecutive corners, Bloxham extended their lead further .... another lovely corner from Thomas M was met by the head of James W, with the same result. The visitors were struggling to contain the home side for the rest of the half and resorted to a few robust challenges. HT 3-0
The second half saw a few changes in personnel, but Bloxham were quickly into their stride. Once again the play was most in the middle of the park and Chesterton's area and it was no surprise, when Bloxham scored again. James W completed his hat-trick with a little style. Picking the ball up just in the visitors half, he set about weaving past two or three defenders. Before slotting the ball into the top left of the goal, past the advancing keeper. There was no way back for Chesterton now. With the odd counter attack, getting through the Bloxham defence ......... Carson W was finally called into action (having been a spectator for rest of the game), diving to his right to push a shot away for a corner. This seemed to spur the boys on and Tom W hit the bar from 25 yards with a dipping, curling shot that beat the keep all hands down. With the game almost up, Tom W added another after good work by Josh B. FT 5-0
A good, solid performance by Bloxham.
